My NZ blanket

After about 6 months work I have finally finished my NZ Birds in the Bush  blanket. It is stitched with tapestry wool on an old green woollen blanket.  I enjoyed finding pictures of birds and working them into the pattern bit by bit as a space needed filling in. There was no real plan to start with but the idea sprang from a crewel work book. I thought I would do NZ things instead of flowers and leaves.

Sean's activity book

I
I have finished Sean's activity book in about a week which is amazing. But then mostly I had everything I needed as I went to spotlight with a list.   I wrote the verses myself based on the book my kids had called 'Over in Meadow'.  The thing I really like about Australia is the exciting and surprising fauna. I want Sean to be proud of being an Australian even though his Mum and Dad have different backgrounds.

First page the koalas have eyes that wink.
2nd page the kangaroos can jump along the string.
3rd page there is a squeaker in the mother kookaburra.

4th page had stiff wings that flap.
5th page has a removable mother echidna and a termite mound that has a dome to open it.

6th page has six chicks on a turntable so they can 'run'.

7th page has seven frilled lizards to count.
8th page has witchety grubs  with a finger puppet.

9th page has a mother crocodile with a zip mouth that opens.
10th page has 10 dingoes to count.
Back of the book with dedication.
I hope he likes it.

Back to Star Wars

After I had finished the amigurumi figures I was shown Julie Gillries Star Wars quiet book through Pinterest. It inspired me to make my granddaughter one. So over the next week or so it took shape.

This page had CP30 in pieces in Chewy's box with snaps to put him together again.

This page had a string to thread through holes to show the Millennium Falcon how to get through the asteroid field.
It was double sided and came to the next page where the MF was safely hidden.
Or was it?

Undo Chewy's belt.
"There are no life forms aboard Captain" or are there.

Dress Princess Leia with different outfits and hairstyles. This was the last page.
I was so pleased how this turned out that I have started a different quiet book for my grandson.

2014 A New Year

Although it is now near the end of February I have decided to make a blog for the things I make which are not korowai weaving.  This is so my weaving blog doesn't get clogged with other things.
I have had a busy start to the year, not to mention end to last year, making amigurumi figures for grandchildren.
Firstly I made a lot of animals I found on the Internet to get the hang of how to make them.

Then my daughter-in-law suggested some octonauts figures for my grandson.    I found some patterns for these too although I think in the end I just adapted one pattern for most of them. Thanks to those who did make good patterns available on the web.

Of course he needed something to keep them in so I made a clamshell holdall.

Star Wars figures

My granddaughters were next to visit and although the animals I made went down a treat they really were more interested in Stat Wars figures. So Grandma set to and by the time they went home they took about ten with them.

I thought I was done and breathed a sigh of relief. Until my sister-in-law talked about figures for the children's book 'Over in the Meadow'. Finger puppets would be ok.  So out comes the hooks again and I start on them.
However they went on the back burner when my granddaughters birthday suddenly came into view. More Star Wars figures and a Death Star holdall.
